This work begins a series of technical studies called the "Etudes". These all have a 16 inch square format. Many are achromatic in nature. They explore concepts used in the larger pieces as well as concepts that emerged in their own right. Keeping with good experiment design, each explores only one or two issues around colour, materials or concept.

This piece explores the integration of background colour with the dynamic colour of the foreground film element. It is also one of the first works executed in my new studio space, ending seven months of no painting.
